HomeSmart Bill Split
Documentation · Core

Split a bill the way the table actually ordered, not just evenly.

Voice or tap-driven bill splitting that follows who ordered what, not a blind even-split.

Smart Bill Split setup guide
Estimated setup time: 5 min
Before you start
  • POS set up
Setup steps
  1. 1

    Enable Smart Split

Turn it on under POS → Bill Splitting.

  2. 2

    Choose split methods

Enable even split, by-item split, and voice-directed split (e.g. "split this 4 ways but Sarah only had the entrée") under POS → Split Methods.

  3. 3

    Set default behaviour

Choose whether checkout defaults to even split with an easy override, or always prompts staff to choose a method.

  4. 4

    Train staff on voice split

Show staff the phrase pattern for voice-directed splits — NUA confirms the breakdown before finalising.

  5. 5

    Test a multi-item split

Run a test order with mixed items across guests and confirm the split matches what was actually ordered.

Tips
  • By-item split is the fastest method for tables that ask for it — voice split is best when the request is more nuanced than a straight item breakdown.
  • NUA always shows the proposed split before charging any card — nothing splits silently.
  • Combine with Loyalty so each guest's share can apply their own loyalty discount, not just a blanket table discount.
Troubleshooting
  • A voice split didn't match what was said.
NUA shows its proposed breakdown before charging — correct it manually there; repeated misreads are worth reporting so phrasing can improve.
  • By-item split totals don't match the bill.
Check for shared items (e.g. a shared appetizer) — assign shared items to a guest or split them explicitly under the split screen.
